Pre-placement offers double at IIM-A
AHMEDABAD: The Diwali this year has definitely shown signs of prosperity for the students of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A). The final year students of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP-2) this year have got almost double the number of Pre Placement Offers (PPOs) as compared to the previous batch of students around the same time in 2009.
Confirming the increasing number of PPOs received by the students, Saral Mukherjee, IIM-A faculty and chairperson of the institute's placement committee, said, "The pre placement offers are significantly higher than that of the last year."
While the institute prefers to keep the number under wraps, sources in the institute said that at least around 50 PPOs have been received by the batch of student till date.

A source in IIM-A said, "The PGP-2 students of this year have received more than 50 PPOs till date. The number is double as compared to last year's trend."
Throwing more light to the figures, the source said, "As these offers keep coming to the students till the time of the final placement around March, the number will keep rising till then."
Finance and consultancy are the major sectors that are extending PPOs to the students this year. While there were almost no presence of investment banks in the placements of 2009, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank and Citigroup were some of the major recruiters who extended PPOs to the batch of students who graduated in 2010.
With the positive signs reflected by the trend of PPOs in the campus which has been improving since the last two years, the students are expecting a better final placement. A student of the institute said, "The trend reflects an improved market scenario and that the companies are rigorously looking for recruitments this year. We are hoping to go through a better placement season this time."
The batch of PGP-2, last year, had 289 students. The strength of the batch has grown to around 360 students this year.
